Tax Information
If you own property in Prompton, you pay taxes on that property to three taxing districts:
- Prompton Borough
- Wayne County
- Wayne Highlands School District
Taxes owed to Prompton Borough and Wayne County are billed together. These “municipal” bills are mailed on or about March 1 each year. You receive a discount for paying the bill early or a penalty for paying the bill late according to the following schedule:
- A 2% discount period runs through May 31.
- The face period runs from June 1 through July 31.
- The 5% penalty period begins on August 1.
Taxes owed to Wayne Highlands School District are billed separately. These “school” bills are mailed on or about August 1 each year. The discount/face/penalty schedule for school bills is as follows:
- A 2% discount period runs through September 30.
- The face period runs from October 1 through November 30.
- The 10% penalty period begins on December 1.
Taxes unpaid as of December 31 are turned over to the Wayne County Tax Claim office. At that point, minimum additional fees are added and interest begins accruing.

Delinquent Taxes
If borough taxes are not paid by December 31st of the year they are due, then they are considered delinquent. Delinquent property taxes are turned over to the Wayne County Tax Claim office. Delinquent per capita taxes are turned over to a third-party collection agency.
Once the taxes are turned over the tax collector can no longer accept payments. Payments will need to be made directly to the Wayne County Tax Claim Bureau and/or the third-party collection agency.
Minimum costs and fees will be added when the taxes become delinquent. Also, the delinquent property taxes will begin accruing interest on the outstanding balance. If delinquent property taxes are not paid, your property may be sold at tax sale. Contact the Tax Claim Bureau for more information.
